Have to disagree on that one, MySQL is (at least) as good as MS SQL, specially for large volume transactions and storage, the algorithms behind the reindex are far superior.

What version of MySQL have you installed? if a db is corrupted does not matter if is MySQL od DB2 on zOS .. first thing is to fix the corruption, think about using MySQL Cluster or to provide some kind of fault tolerance to the db (easily done at the OS level)
