I had a 85' 735 and it was very high maintenance. The auto tranny's are horrible. Replaced mine twice. The 3.5 is bullet proof but not a strong performer stock. They do love turbos though.
You'd be better off with a 87-91 535i 5spd. Same 3.5L motor but much more reliable.
