I think I'll focus more on an e28 535i. Too many issues with the auto transmission and electrics come up with the e23. And the complicated HVAC system. I've always like the squarish lines of the e28. I think all the criticism and recommendations are right on target. I just needed to get set straight on it so I don't end up with a nice-looking but frustrating money pit (emphasis on frustrating).
edit: It always amazes me the width and breadth (sic?) of knowledge on this board. One guy (Len) even owned an obscure L7. Additionally, I think he's right: The L7 wasn't stretched till the next generation L7. I'm guessing they were using up e23 shells since everyone knew the new ones were about to debut here (like with the '89 speedster) ;-)
