I hesitate to post as I am completely out of my league here, but...

Since this is not a 5th wheel trailer, wouldn't a longer tow vehicle make for a much more stable rig. I always imagined the rear hitch to be like the anchor for pendulum (trailer) - therefore the more vehicle in front of the rear axle, the less problems.

You may have already taken all of this into consideration, but isn't the Avalanche a fairly short vehicle. Was the F450 a long bed? Or a Crew Cab?
