When I was a kid I'd spend a month up there every summer. Nowadays I'm lucky to make it up for an overnighter once a year. It's about 1000 kms (600 miles) away.
It's a great spot, but it has nothing on my wife's family cottage. That place is fantastic. Built in 1905 on an incredible 4 acre waterfront lot. Private beach on one side, barn & wharf on the other side. It even has a 12'x12' icehouse with 10" walls filled with saw dust. They fill it with blocks of ice in the winter, and it would last until the end of July. Just a storage shed now.
Sadly, we haven't been up in 2 years because of bad relations with the mother in law. The place is deteriorating badly. If it doesn't get serious work soon (plaster down and wet inulation pulled out) it will be in serious trouble.
Luckily, it's already in the kids' names so they'll always have the property even if the cottage has to be torn down.
