Good question.

You found two 901/09 engines without the MFI drive extension on the left (1-2-3) cam. I guess the question is; were the cams changed or modified or they original?

After almost 40 years almost anything is possible. Our mission here is to determine if something is original and unusual vs. a modification. This is not always easy with this era 911s as Porsche was changing things so fast during this time.

I wouldn’t put it past Porsche to sell a ’68 with a carbureted 901/09 or a ’69 using ’68 numbers. This is a year where Porsche KG was in turmoil in many respects, S/N included.

Best,
Grady
