A small keypad safe in the bedroom holds my carry .38, loaded.
A locked gun case holds the remaining handguns, unloaded. Ammunition locked in a separate case. Long guns in other cased, unloaded, with trigger locks.
I figure in an emergency, I'm not going to need immediate access to more than 1 gun.
A proper fire resistant gun safe is on the agenda when we build out the basement. Will do double duty as storage for some papers and for an external hard drive. Other stuff, we keep in a safety deposit box.
Having little kids, with their friends who occasionally visit, I think guns have to be locked away. My kids know not to touch my guns, but their friends might not.
