It's L A W law down here! No choices - own firearms; have gunsafe. Ammo nees to be separated from weapons; although you can buy safes that have a separate compartment for that. I have ammo in one concealed and longarms in another very well concealed. Even the air rifle needs to be locked up in the same way as the shotguns.
Down here there is a stigma attached to owning firearms. Also my kids didn't grow up like I did with firearms so I wouldn't feel comfortable with them having any access to them. I was shooting by the time I was 8; my kids haven't yet even held a firearm - different times I guess. One day when I get some serious time I will sit them down and teach them how to handle and RESPECT a firearm...sometime before I am old and crotchety
