I think he said H 4's. Only 2 adjuster screws. I do about the same thing as the garage door trick, except I don't use another car for a benchmark. And, if you can park in a big lot perpendicular to a fence, etc., you can dial in exactly what YOU want instead of specs. Move the car closer and further away until you're satisfied. Then, do a road test and come back and fine tune what you want. I like the lights centered on the horizon at about 100 yards and centered on the road. The heck with running the lights to the right. All dangerous objects don't appear on the right.
I tend to run my lights just a wee bit higher than spec seeing as how high beams are illegal to use on the highway. If I do use the high beams, they light up the whole scene.
