I think that with OBD2 and beyond it is refered to as a MIL(malfunction indicator light) because of the powertrain/trans imputs.
If the car is driven enough in all conditions(completing drive cycles), all the self-testing by the computer should make the light go out by itself. An annoying OBD2 quirk.

Dealership or Ford forums may also have some answers if it's not that.
