Whoops! Since I am subscribing for information, I thought it pertinent to add some valuable information as well.

First the engine number, 6591617. The first number, 6, relates to the number of cylinders which is 6. The second number, 5, means it is an engine that was meant to be mounted into a Porsche 911SC Coupe or Targa bound for California, USA. The third number, 9, represents the model year, which in this case is 1979.

The last four numbers, 1617, represents a serial number which equates to the number of this engine rolling off of the assembly line. In this case (pardon the pun) it is the one thousandth, six-hundred seventeenth engine made. Germans have been very good at keeping track of things such as Porsche engines.

Now, I am not an expert, but from the pictures posted here, it seems to me this engine came right out of a car. It doesn't appear to be rebuilt, or if it was rebuilt, it was done a while ago and has been running/leaking/collecting dirt like any normal engine would do over time. Again, I am no expert, but another thought I had was if it is rebuilt, the machine shop did not clean up the engine before reassembly, they just put it back together again. Hmmm???

By the way, are you going with carbs or do you need a CIS system for it?

Hope this helps.
