Bob, There is nothing under the disks to worry about. You can remove them. I have that same disk on the engine in my mustang. The red paint and stamp may have been during the rebuild to keep track of it. The stamping may also mean that it has been align bored which may be an expensive issue if bearings are still hard to come by. Typically the machine shop will stamp at the rear of the case behind the flywheel. Since this may not have been rebuilt by a Porsche specialist, the # could be where you have found it.
I would pull it apart and check the mains for an align bore and for a crank that has been reground. Number your bearings and bag them.
As Anthony911 stated the engine is a 78/78 911 sc engine for california. The 78/79 SC engine has big port heads and is a good base to do what you are thinking of doing.
