Those discs are put on rebuilt motors to havwe a tell tale sign of an over temp. In other words, If you overheat the motor, the disc changes color, and the shop that rebuilt the motor can tell that you overheated the motor, hense voiding the warranty...

If you bought this engine as a core, than don't worry about the discs, they are glued on with something like JB weld... just pop them off with a chisel and hammer. As far as the motor, that should be a 3.0L out of an SC. But doesnt a motor with the tensioner updates have a pressure line going to the front of the timing chain cover???
