Congratulations, and +1 on don't run it with a fuel smell.

I had two mechanics look over my car and tell me my fuel injection hoses didn't look "good" but could wait a month or so to get fixed "while your in there". Since the hood was open I asked the second guy if he was REALLY sure they would be ok, and he reaches in and gives one a squeeze and the surface of the hose was instantly wet with gasoline, then he wasn't too sure.

Turned out the orings on the injectors were in no better shape than the factory hoses were.

If the fuel smell is out the tail pipe, thats just as serious as the catalytic converters can run dangerously hot.

There is also a hose related to the gas tank vent system that can make a gas smell.
