The image is only a visual aid, the application I am using it for is not for nut retention. It is more flat with shorter arms and is used to bind inside the I.D. of a tube or circular depression. Think of it as doing the duty of an I.D. circlip without the machined groove. The legs bite into the I.D. providing the secure location.
