Cheney ordered almost all our fighters to the Arctic Circle? Haven't heard that one before. I didn't know the VP had that authority. Even so, we had fighters in the air to intercept the hijacked planes. It's just that the air traffic controllers or FAA didn't get around to making the call soon enough. And pre-9/11 how many fighters did we usually have ready and with ordnance already loaded for domestic CAP's? Probably none.
