I am in the marine industry (on the landlubber side) my old boss had been a boat builder, research diver, charter boat captain and inter-island pilot. He used to look around the office and say "this is NOT men's work". We would all look at our shoes and agree...
How true. I grew up in a small logging town, where a day's work was a day's work. It felt good to work. It also made me stronger, in more ways than one. I recently hooked my almost-son-in-law up with a trainee position with a plumbing/pipe fitting company. They're doing layoffs for the moment, but he's not going to be included. The kid is on the ball. But here's the deal: I knew he would tear into that job, and was happy to recommend him (plus, he could pass a drug test.....that's rare these days). Today, the look in his eye is brighter than ever, and his arms look decidedly bigger. He looks like 26 year-olds should look, in my always-humble opinion.
