My Mom is in a similar siutation as she has had a triple bypass and gets winded very fast while walking.
Back when I had a different hotrod I took Mom out to eat. She has a parking permit for the mirror.
While we are getting out, a couple walks by and says something about not looking handicapped.
Well, I had a long day so wasn;t in the greatest of moods anyway. As I held the door open for this couple, I asked if they had a problem with Mom being handicapped. The wife let out with a flurry of pretty horrible comments about not needeing the space, etc.
About this time, the entire diner is looking at us so I suggested that Mom open her shirt to show the freakin' scar from her surgery. Thank goodness she didn't but the mouthy wench did shut the f*&^ up!!
Did I mention that the diner owners knew my parents from eating there for years? They had even sent a card to the hospital.
I do check if I see someone without a tag using a space. Only once did I encounter a faker. I suggested he move his car or the store might do it for him. He was actually pretty cool about it as we ended upin the same checkout line later.
