My electric drop-in range gave up the ghost. So now the question is: Step up to gas, or simply upgrade to a ceramic cook top?

We've had the ceramic top before. And we like how it provides additional counter space when not in use. And we like how it's easy to keep clean. (Provided you don't scratch it.)

Then again, I'd really like to go gas, but all the gas ranges are priced much higher. And then there's the plumbing equation. (All we have right now is a gas water heater and fireplace.)

Let me add that we're trying to keeop this under $1,200.00.
