There is a place just south of Yosemite that has an Honest to God steam locomotive that does runs it originally did full of logs and lumberjacks.
Can't recall the name off the top of my head, but if you were going LA to Reno or Tahoe it would be right on the way. Gives you a good reason to be driving all those mountain roads too. Tioga pass is pretty scenic, here are some pics of that, if you are wondering how that might look
