I use a single O2 sensor on my race car and it is in the collector since I have a 4 into 1 system. I use it mainly for full throttle since it registers just slightly rich but when I let off to brake it pegs lean which is normal I guess? I'd recommend using a powered O2 sensor (three wire) as it will heat up faster and they give slightly more accurate readings. Good luck.
