Do a search on you tube for street fights and such. After watching this, I think I learned a thing or two-

1) My 150lb frame would not do well in a fight.

2) Don't assume you can win a fight based on the appearance of the other dude. There's a video of a thug-type guy on a basketball court starting with a nerdy looking dude. Nerdy guy keeps trying to get out of it, which emboldens the aggressor to go further. Finally, nerdy guy goes into a kung-fu stance. The crowd draws back- and it appears this guy was for real. The aggressor flails like 30 punches at the nerd, who deflects, deflects, dodges, and then finally takes one well aimed shot. Overwith.

3) Another lesson learned from the nerd fight (and from watching a lot of UFC)- a calculated strike is a lot better than a barrage of nonsensical windmill punches.

I've never been in a real fight. Closest came on Miami Beach last year. An apparant vagrant struck me on the back of the head while I was walking home with my wife from the 4th of July fireworks. I will never know why- he was speaking gibberish and clearly on some serious 'meds'. The strike was actually light enough that I thought it might have been someone I knew messing with me, until I saw him. From the look of him, I might have actually had a chance. However, he had a pretty lame leg and walked with a hobble. So I chose to take the wife and go for a 3 block jog. The SOB actually hobbled about 1 before giving up. I did this because: I don't need to prove my toughness to my wife- I'd rather she think I'm smart. I don't want to touch a dude that dirty and risk getting crabs or something. I don't want to end up being sued by him when a dirtbag lawyer gets to him and makes it a 'hate crime' or something. By simply getting out of there, I got to be home in time for South Park and some ice cream. BTW- not a cop in sight during the incident, which is odd because the police station was literally 2 blocks away and there's almost always a presence. Oh well... I am here and crabs free!
