I am using Symantec's AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.1. and it works fine. As long as you use a wifi router for internet access you already have a pretty effective firewall and do not need any additional stuff that only slows you down. I have removed Spybot's resident portion (teatimer) and only run it every once in a while to wipe adware. All the other registry monitoring stuff is an annoyance in my books.....

With this config even hitting sites like Astalavista hasn't gotten me in trouble in several years.....

BTW: Skype is known to sometimes maxing out the processor load. Especially in combination with streaming video - ihis takes up a lot of processor time. And there have been bugy 3.x versions of Skype around.....
