This is a common occurence when a car is equiped with a Motorola alternator. Many VW's and Audi's have the same problem.

My car does this. When I start it up, I usually have ALL the warning lights illuminated...until I rev the engine above about 1800 RPM. Then they go out and stay out. But if I shut the engine off and turn it back on again, they do the same thing. Apparently, there is a resistor somewhere that you can change and it will cause the alternator to come online at a lower RPM.

There was a thread over on Rennlist in which they talked about how to solve this problem, but I cannot remember what it was called. Do a search over there and you'll probably find it.
