Looks more like inept off-road driving than a vehicle deficiency. Anything can be broken including Land Rovers which by the way, followed the introduction of the Jeep by about 4 or 5 years - the British didn't originate the concept of a competent off-road vehicle. Too many off-road drivers have only had training in the form of watching chase scenes in movies. There is skill and knowledge required to do it well. Any idiot can go banging through the rocks instead of placing the wheels, differentials, steering gear, rockers, etc. in the right places relative to the rocks and other terrain features and SLOWLY picking one's way through it. That being said, the better off-road vehicles are the smaller models with low gearing and good clearance which tends to exclude Hummers, Suburbans, large Jeep station wagons, Range Rovers, most large pickups, small cross-overs and any kind of "pretty vehicle". If you care about the paint being scratched up it isn't an off-road vehicle. Some of the full-size Dodge trucks without a pickup bed (flat bed) do very well off-road when equipped with a diesel engine.
