I think you're not being unreasonable at all. Parking lots and the legions of other idiots that use them are the WORST place for a car you care about. If my car is anywhere than in my garage under a cover, I'm worried about it. A parking lot (particularly a mall parking lot) is about the worst possible place someone can take it. Guarantee of door dings, scratches and unwanted attention by less-than-savory individuals with less-than-honorable intentions.
