Polandbreeder,

If I understand correctly, you've got 4th in the forward left position and 1st on the right rear position. Is this correct?
I was thinking this reversal could be achieved if a rod was rigidly mounted in the shift bushing cup and replaced the shifter. Could you post a pic of the shifter? Does anything look non-stock?
Where is reverse hiding?

I've never been inside the transmission case, so I can't comment on the possibility of gearsets in the wrong places. Seems unlikely, though.
