That's the thing, most people assume that they are the same when they're not. I've pretty much taken myself off the track. I might do an autocross if I get the car up to speed and see how confident I am. But, more importantly, see how the instructors feel. It really takes some observation of the driver.
I'd mention this to the "some old man" politely and ask him if he saw a scratch on his bumper. It would be scary if he said he saw it and didn't know how it happened.
Meanwhile, how's the garage support??

My parents in San Diego are supposed to start taking drivers tests next year. But it is the WRITTEN test, not a road test.
