This post makes me so damn angry on so many levels. I get sad when I think about all of our Veterans that must think "this is what I fought for? This is what so many people have died for?" We have the rights in this country to be whatever and act however we want. Try being openly gay in 1939 Nazi Germany. Try being an artist or whatever you want to be in the Soviet Union in 1984. Geez...aren't you glad THEY didn't win? What kills me is the reason people have these freedoms is because of our military and what they have done for us. Those same free people will spit in the face of a soldier. I'm glad my WWII vet Granfathers are not around to see this.I always felt bad for my Dad being a Vietnam Vet. I always hated thinking of him and what it must have been like coming home to such a "warm" reception like he did. I'm so proud of him and his military service (20+ years active duty and 20+ yrs and going civi gov. employee at Mayport NS) and always go out of my way to let him know that.
I don't get the whole "Gay pride" thing. I mean...really? I know some gay people (Guys and Gals...hell, I went to art school) And they always felt like "what's the big deal if your gay?" They never made it an "issue" They didn't let it define them as a person. Nobody ever says "Terry...you know...the hetero guy that has the thing for girls) You wouldn't even know some of them were gay and they didn't feel the need to flaunt it....why should it be an issue. Is it an issue that I like big boobs? Should I have "Big Tit Appreciation Day" and close down the streets of Jacksonville? (not a bad idea...Byron, you in?)
One of the best feelings I recently had was sitting in Bradley Airport (Hartford CT) on my way back to FL. and seeing a family waiting for their son to get back from Iraq. The place was packed, but fairly quiet. When those Soldiers got off the plane, the whole place erupted in applause for at least 5 minutes while families hugged, kissed and cried. Not hardly a dry eye around. You could hear the applause following them down the concourse. And this was in liberal CT!!!! Not all is lost. I guess we (the US) need more Dems like Lieberman.
Also...this is a great way for me to really get to know some of you and see a little more of your true personallities. It's great when we all talk Porsche but very disappointing, but informative, when we don't. I wish I could stop looking over here and just keep Pelican about cars. When I read posts now in the 911 sections I find myself saying" wait...this is the jerk from the OT thread".
BTW. I'm sure I have spelling errors but i'm too f**king stupid to use the spell check button. I'm angry and I did go to a government school in the south for most of my childhood. Grew up in the hood of Ponte Vedra FL. lots of really dumb redneck golfers and tennis pros out there. Oh and I forgot the really redneck late Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood. What a hick town.
