I'm not sure what the cops could have, or should have done differently. It sounds like they did their best to difuse what appeared to be a violent and possibly escalating situation. They had a responsibility to others in the airport as well, to protect them from her. They did what was necessary to restrain her. She killed herself while alone in a cell. The good news is, she did no harm to anyone else. The cops did their job in that respect. It's a pretty good rule of thumb to shut up, calm down, and do what they say when they show up. They gave her every chance to do that. It's tragic what happened to her, but in this case, she is entirely to blame, not the cops.
