Read an interesting piece in the Wall Street Journal today about the used watch market.

Apparently, several makers (Omega is the one they focused on) are "secretly" bidding up their brand of watches in big auctions, to give them more "cache." A 50's Omega sold for something like $300,000 at a recent auction (don't remember the exact number, but it was well into 6 figures and a record for an Omega), then it was made public that the bidder was actually the Omega company itself.

I think the old Omegas are very fine mechanical watches. Omega kinda ruined their image by making some cheaper quartz stuff in the 80s. But I really like their mechanical watches from their heydays, in the 50s/60s/70s. I love their style.
