It seems to me this car has come apart of you much like they have for the rest of us. If you sell it you probably will resent her and yourself for giving in. Hopefully you can talk to her and make her understand what the car means to you. If it becomes a point of contention it will be very difficult to not let it come between you and her.
Any possibility of getting a third car? I have a good situation in that I have a work pickup and so the car doesn't have to be relied on very much. Buy yourself a used Honda or Toyota and get on with your life.
