It is not the car per se. It is the fact that the resentment would build because of selling it. If he was selling it because he wanted to it would be different. If you have a wife that supports your hobbies then you have nothing to worry about. If she said you had to stop buying and selling cars, flying airplanes, racing, autocrossing, I bet you would not feel that she was quite so wonderful. That is the point.
