plasma v. lcd revisted
Well, due to an impeding career shift I decided it was time to upgrade from an old crt to widescreen/hd tv. I don't have a very large room so I was looking at 32/37" LCD. While everyone is screaming 1080p, it seems the reality is that especially in a smaller size like that, 720p is just fine, especially since I'll be mostly watching SD DVDs. The main thing I want is 16x9 native (I hate 4x3) and the ability to display 1080i video I shoot.
I was all set to go LCD (Sharp) but I got some advice at one of the stores to consider plasma. The argument being that it is a bit warmer and "film" like. I have to admit that it seemed to be the case. Of course the smallest you can go is 42" and it also is 1024x768 native. But $1200 for a Panasonic unit seemed like a reasonable deal.
At any rate, got it home (helps to know a cute woman with a truck) and it is big. Maybe too big. It also does not have direct DVI connection so using it as a secondary computer display isn't an option like it would be with an LCD (although I guess you can do DVI-HDMI). The other option I'm still considering is a 32" Sharp 720p box as they are under $1K.
So did anyone else go plasma instead of lcd recently?
