3.6 timing chain marks on case

i found these marks on the inside of my case. looks like the timing chain was rubbing against the side. also on the bottom corner it looks like it has ground down a bit of casing. the pics tell the story.
i would think that this is due to a bad chain tensioner. anyone had this happen to him/her?

there was obviously metal ground off from the case. meaning that it is probably inside the case. the oil looked fine when drained, and up till now i have seen no damage to anything. the whole motor seems to be in great shape.

would it be worth splitting the case to check it out? i've been deeply debating whether or not to split it. everything seems to be fine. is there really that much more involved in splitting? i would then be looking at replacing main, intermediate shaft, and rod bearings, rod bolts, etc. this is a whole other can of worms.

i took kirkf's idea about wrapping the motor with plastic wrap to keep it clean. i will be sending out my heads and p/c's to steve @ rennsport to get the head gasket modification.
