I very much agree with the first part, tabs. Take the skills of any occupation in the hands of an experienced person for example. In my case, I often feel I know less today than when I left med school. Yet, the neat thing today is that I know precisely what I master and what I do not. Thus I am completely calm and mentally composed at every medical situation today. In the beginning I had more overall theoretical knowledge, but I had no experience on how to make it useful. Today I know what I know, can take responsibility for my actions and crucially, spot exactly when I donīt and need a second opinion.

In your second part you describe skills that can come in very handy in any given social situation. Giving the operator a certain strategic advantage of which the receiver often not is aware. There are more than anecdotal historical evidence that such a 'gift' can pay off handsomely. At least in a shorter perspective.
