My wife was born in Cuidad Chihuahua. While visiting the parents, I was reading the touristica crap in the hotel room and found out that the dog is named after the city. They are not quite sure where the breed originated. But the City of Chihuahua, around 1900, had such a population of the friggen things, they were like the local rat. An extermination program was started and they wiped out most of the wild packs.
