well thats what i did. i adjusted them on one side and then was told that i have to go back and forth between the sides upper and lower or i can damage the valves. is this true? thanks

You would normally follow the firing order of 1,6,2,4,3,5 by swithcing from one side to the other after truning crank pulley 60 degrees. If you want to do one side and than the other, you have to spin the crank pulley 120 degrees for cylinder 1,2,3,4,5,6 -- I have never done it that way, so you would be wise to check out this procedure to confirm what I've written.
