I remember you were talking about this earlier in the year.

Buy that Bentley from David! The Chilton & Haynes aren't great.

I've done clutches in A2 & A3 jettas... not too bad. You'll have to support the engine, as the front engine mount comes out too.



You have to pop the axles too, so it's a good time to change the CV boots and replace any front-end bushings & joints... which are notoriously weak on A3s anyway.

One thing the Haynes didn't describe: when you unbolt the tranny from the engine, it needs to be rotated counter clockwise a few degrees before pulling it away from the engine. Otherwise, the axle flanges will get caught up on the shifter fork and beat the piss out of it. Ask me how I know.

Also, make sure you change the clutch pushrod bushing & seal. Sometimes comes with a clutch kit, sometimes doesn't.
