I went to Brandeis. 4 years in the heart of Jewishness with a lot of hot debate on religion. IM (informed) O, God doesn't care about what you eat or how you eat it. So many of these old laws were about
:
1. the Jews being the most civilized in terms of creating a structure of ethics and morals. It was so successful that we use it today.
2. A way of separating themselves from the heathens, and that goes through to today. When you're one of the Chosen People, you want maintain that status, especially when everyone around you is always attacking you.
3. they were the first FDA.
So a lot of these things carry through to today, but a lot don't. So many times in the OT you read how nothing is more pleasing to God than the aroma of a good sacrifice.
Don't see a lot of cloven doves and oxen burning on alters today, do you?
