I walked around for 30 years thinking and saying the same thing as you, though not for religious purposes. I even told Jim when I saw the tattoo he had that I would never consider getting a tat, then he got shot and I changed my mind.
I did not get it to be cool. Your kids are going to do what they want when they are adults, so it is a bit of a reach to say neither you nor they will ever get one.
