From memory, the 7R crankcase was introduced with the 2.7 Carrera RS engine but was available in 2 different forms - one with a 97mm bore to take the 2.7 litre (90mm) pistons & the other with 92mm bore to take the 2.0/2.2/2.4 litre (80/84mm) pistons.
The 2.4 litre version was introduced mid-production but could be obtained to use as a base to build up any 2.0/2.2/2.4/2.7 (or 2.8RSR!). Therefore it is very difficult to say exactly what specification this engine is. My guess would be a late '72 2.4T or late'72/early '73 2.4E.
