Man, it must suck to be "you guys". Move to Indiana!!
Once you have your CCW, you can walk into a shop and it's cash-n-carry for a new gun. If you want to obtain a full auto piece or a silencer, you pay $500 for a transfer stamp, and processing (processing takes about 2 weeks). Once the paperwork comes back, it is faxed to seller of said item, and it is shipped. A buddy of mine just bought a silencer for his mod. M16. Took 3 weeks total!
As for my opinion on what to get I would say an M1919.
Why? It is the ultimate MG!! For what it gets used for, it is ideal IMO.
-Replacement barrels are readily available, and reasonably priced.
-Replacement barrel extensions, followers, bolts, etc. all readily available.
-Easy to field strip and maintain.
-Fires .308 ammo, which can be found surplus for CHEAP!
-No hunting around for clips (magazines)!
-Heavy enough that it doesn't walk all over the place when firing.
-Makes a great conversation piece for your gun/re-loading room
Plus, you have to love the sound of full auto .308s tearing down the range.
Oh, P.S. ALL of the outdoor ranges in this area have dedicated full auto areas!
