I only have experience with two units.
Over the summer I bought a Magellan Roadmate 2200. I really liked it, but it had two instances where it couldn't get me where I wanted to go. One was a new neighborhood (not surprising) but one was where it missed a road that had been there for years. All it needed was a map update but none were available so I sold it to a neighbor one week later.
I then replaced it with a Garmin 330 that I bought at Circuit City for about $250. I got a free map update with the purchase and have been very pleased with it. Never missed a turn yet, including a trip last summer where I drove from here to NY, then to ME, and back home.
