Yes.
It varies based on airline, so you need to carefully read their policys, and its a good idea to print them out just in case you get some idiot at the ticket desk. I actually had to walk a Northwest employee through the process myself, because she didn't know what to do, but typically this is routine for them.
After you check in, the airline has an agent walk you to a TSA inspection point (Its a little room at Seatac). They ask you to open the case, make sure they are not loaded, then relock the case. The airline agent takes the guns to check through, and you go to security. The ammo can go in your regular baggage. It varies based on airline, but Northwest will take up to 11 pounds (quite a bit).
