It's certainly not for everyone, but here is my friend's stepdad's 72' (beautifully restored wooden schooner, worth more than my house & turns heads even by San Diego standards). He has plenty of room onboard, and since he was/is a defense contractor, "our tax dollars"

paid to have it trucked across the country and for his monthly slip fees in the America's Cup Harbor for many years. All the amenities you could ask for on shore (showers, head, etc.) and then some...he has a house out there too, but prefers to live on his "baby". It's a different way of living, and certainly doesn't suck
