I'm glad you decided to stick it out...what's rewarding is the ability, some time down the line, to talk the talk.
There's nothing more emasculating than not being able to tell folks how you tackled problems on your car: "Well, then it died all the time, and I took it to my wrench and he fixed it after several tries. I think it was the distributor or something, I don't remember."
Anytime, anyone says anything about how my car sounds, runs, or looks, I know exactly what they're talking about and I'm one of the following:
1) Responsible for it (if it's a debacle usually)
2) Working on it (but hey, I know the lingo, baby)
3) Know that's the way these cars are, and that's what makes 'em special
