I don't think there are too many cases of random, in-home double murders. Could be a case of mistaken identity, but this couple was likely targeted and likely by a very determined person or persons. In that case, there's nothing that could have prevented this other than the victims being able to defend themselves. Dogs, security systems, mace, rape whistle, whatever. Those things are like trying to prevent or put out a fire with a towel. It may work, but it's no match for a fire extinguisher. Guns are the same when it comes to home defense. When you need one, there is absolutely no substitute.
