Not sure whether you have something similar in the area - but we were recently faced with the same question.

We wanted my parents to get out more - and discovered a great Tennis/social club just around the corner from them where we bought them non-playing memberships. (We have the monthly chits sent directly to us as part of the gift.)

In any case they have taken to this like ducks to water - and go there virtually every day for a glass of wine, or a sandwich or a game of bridge. Probably the best gift we could have given them.
