The Director's cut was much better than the '82 release, but still, I never got a good sense of Batty and the others, who they were and why they were.

I seem to recall they were worker androids gone bad, who escaped the planet they were on and took hold of a ship that brought them back to L.A.

As to the article - yes, it's correct - As I recall, "Do Androids Dream..." is set in S.F., with no reference to "blade runners." And Deckard seems somewhat decadent; sort of a futuristic, washed-up alcoholic sense.

I'm going to find the book, read it again, then check out this latest release. It is one of my all-time favorite movies for all it doesn't say.
